If you can get the newer SCSI card to work with your scanner and Vista 圆4 drivers are available, I think that is the best route.Network cards always have widespread driver support, it's important enough, that it works. This is probably the most cumbersome option, but it is an option. So if you have XP Pro installed with all your drivers, you should be able to insert your Windows 7 installation over the top using the 'Upgrade to Windows 7' option presented when the old OS recognizes the new OS.Īnother option is to dual-boot Win7 and WinXP. Microsoft's upgrade option retains functionality from every previous Windows iteration, provided you have 'upgraded' from each previous iteration of Windows. You have a few other options as well, though I believe Bob Collette presents the best solution. Now it appears that Win 7 does not support any SCSI activity? I was on phone forever with Microsoft techs trying different things etc. I always had used XP Pro and had a SCSI into PCI card for my Canon FS 2710 film scanner.

I just upgraded to Win 7 Pro 64 bit on my desktop. I see that that scanner was a windows 98/me and windows 2000 supported model so you might consider installing a copy of windows 98 into virtualbox if the XP mode isn't working otherwise you might be in for an upgrade since that is a faily old scanner and going forward scsi will not be used but a usb or firewire model will not need special expansion cards to connect.

It might be a little bit of work but the odds of it working are much better than forcing unsupported drivers into windows 7 and if and install breaks something in the virtual installation it cannot affect your actual Windows install and starting over is a lot easier too. Installing it inside of the virtual XP computer should work exactly like inside of a real XP machine but if that fails I'd say also try VirtualBox from Sun MIcrosystems( now Oracle) which is a virtual machine platform that is free and often use to test software or install different versions of Windows without affecting the native installation.
Here is a video of a guy using it with an old webcam and in the comments another person said it works for his scanner too: It is called XP mode and is basically a full windows Xp install running virtually inside your Windows 7 installation. Have you tried setting up the virtualized XP pro install that is part of window 7 pro? The site has a pretty good search engine, so you should be able to find the instructions with a search there for "Adaptec 2906 Vista Driver 64." From what I remember of the discussion there, this edit was working with most 29XX Adaptec cards. The card now shows up as 2906 in Device Manager, but it has been working fine for almost two years. The editing was very straightforward, using Notebook. Adaptec has not released any Windows 7 64-bit drivers for my card, but I did some searching and found instructions for editing the 2906 64-bit Vista driver in the forums at.
I encountered the same issue with the Adaptec 2930CU that I was using with a couple of scanners attached under Windows 2000. If so, you can go into BIOS and check the PCI devices or turn off the splash.
The model number usually appears briefly early in the boot sequence, but it may be covered up by your BIOS splash screen. Joe, You BIOS can usually detect and identify the SCSI card even though your operating system doesn't.

I have used it for years on Win 2K, and then XP Pro with ASTI 32 driver, all installed in odd order that a Canon tech showed me how to do. I know it is an Adaptec but have to look for box of pull it out to see model.
